^ NOISE - "SQUEAK/RATTLE" AT SLIDING DOOR AND/OR HIGH CLOSING EFFORTS

LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-96 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
There may be a "squeak/rattle" noise from the sliding door area and/or the sliding door may be difficult to close. This may be caused by misadjustments at one or several locations.

ACTION:
Refer to the following Service Procedure and adjust the various contact points of the sliding door. This should reduce the possibility of squeaking and high closing efforts.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE:
VERIFY THE CONCERN BY SLOWLY DRIVING OVER BUMPS. IF A SQUEAK IS HEARD, PROCEED TO STEP 1. DO NOT MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO ANY VEHICLE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS SUSPENDED OR HAS JUST BEEN SUSPENDED ON A HOIST OR FLOOR JACK. THE VEHICLE MUST BE DRIVEN IN ORDER TO FULLY STABILIZE THE SUSPENSION AND MAKE SURE AN ACCURATE ADJUSTMENT TO THE SLIDING DOOR HAS BEEN MADE.

1. Remove the male portion of the dovetail from the sliding door. Refer to Figure 1.

2. Inspect the front striker location. The front striker should not contact the top, bottom or any side of the latch assembly when latched. A shiny surface indicates a mislocated striker. If there is evidence of mislocation, adjust the striker as shown in Figure 2.

3. Inspect the rear sliding door striker location. The rear sliding door striker location is the most critical adjustment because it controls the door fit and release efforts. The rear striker should not contact the top, bottom or sides of the latch when latched. Refer to Figure 3. Rear striker engagement should be viewed outside, from the rear, while holding the sliding door slightly open.

4. If the sliding door rattles after the striker/latch adjustment, install a new sliding door seal (F6XZ-1225324-AA). Do not install this seal if the concern is high sliding door effort. The seal has three (3) hard points inside the seal and it is installed counterclockwise starting with the blue mark in the top left corner.

5. Loosely reinstall the male portion of the dovetail that was removed in Step 1. Tighten the bolts to 12-16 N.m (9-12 lb-ft).

6. Loosen the two (2) screws that retain the female portion of the dovetail. Twist the dovetail in a slight clockwise direction (approximately 1/16") to preload the female-to-male dovetail fit. Secure the female dovetail to 5-7 N.m (4-5 lb-ft). Refer to Figure 4.

7. Inspect the sliding door interior cover panel at all insert attachment points. Make sure the panel is properly attached at all points, especially at the top rear edge of the panel. Refer to Figure 5.

8. Clean and grease all roller assemblies before road testing the vehicle.
