LIGHT TRUCK:
1996-97 VILLAGER
ISSUE:
Intermittent operation of the radio controls and/or the speed controls may be evident through the steering wheel switches. This may be due to a tinning effect on the horn pad switch contacts.
ACTION:
Replace the horn pad, speed control switch, and remote radio control switch. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 10 minutes to deplete the Safety Restraint System (SRS) backup power supply.
2. Center the front wheels to the straight ahead position. Remove the access covers to the air bag module bolts. Refer to the 1997 Villager Service Manual, Page 11-04-3.
CAUTION:
DO NOT REUSE AIR BAG MODULE BOLTS.
3. Remove and discard the driver side air bag module bolts.
4. Remove the driver side air bag module and place it safely with the trim cover facing up.
5. Remove the speed control switch and the radio control switch.
6. Use a # 25 torx bit driver to loosen the horn pad switch. Remove the horn pad switch.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the revised Horn Pad Switch (F6XZ-13K805-AA). Torque the four (4) bolts to 2.8 10.05 N.m (25 10.5 lb-in).
2. Install a revised Remote Radio Control Switch (F6XZ-19A181-AAA) and a revised Speed Control Switch (F6XZ-9D743-ABW).
3. Reinstall air bag module with two (2) new Torx Bolts (01141-00411) and torque the bolts to 15-24 N.m (11-18 lb-ft).
4. Reconnect the negative battery cable and turn ignition on to verify that the SRS system indicator lamp proves out no trouble codes before road testing the vehicle.
