Recall 96V155001: Power Window Malfunction
These vehicles were produced with power windows that can be closed after the ignition key is turned to the "off" position and the right front (passenger) door is opened. This does not comply with FMVSS No. 118, "Power-operated Window Systems." The standard requires that power operated windows may be closed "only during the time interval between the time the locking device which controls the activation of the vehicle's engine is turned off and the opening of either of a two door vehicle's doors, or in the case of a vehicle with more than two doors, the opening of either of its front doors. Ford has not submitted a corrective action for this non-compliance. The manufacturer has petitioned NHTSA for a determination that this matter is inconsequential with respect to motor vehicle safety. The manufacturer is not obligated to conduct an owner notification and remedy campaign until NHTSA has resolved that the matter is inconsequential.1996 MERCURY TRUCK VILLAGER
