Removal

1. Remove the hood.
2. Drain the cooling system.





3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
4. Remove the fan shroud and fan blade assembly.
5. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system R 134a coolant.





6. On early models, remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
a. Disconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) -sensor electrical connector.
b. Loosen the two air cleaner outlet tube clamps and remove the air cleaner outlet tube.





7. On late models, remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
a. Disconnect the (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
b. Loosen the two air cleaner outlet tube clamps and remove the air cleaner outlet tube.

8. Remove the air conditioning condenser.
9. Remove the battery.





10. Remove the accessory drive belt.
a. Turn the tensioner pulley clockwise.
b. Remove the accessory drive belt.





11. Remove the three power steering reservoir bolts and position the power steering reservoir aside.





12. Remove the power steering rear bolt.





13. Rotate the power steering pulley for access to remove the three power steering pump bolts.





14. Remove the power steering line bracket nut at the side of the air conditioning compressor.
15. Position the power steering pump and power steering reservoir aside.





16. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor electrical connector.





17. Remove the air conditioning line manifold bolt at the back of the air conditioning compressor.





18. Remove the three A/C and power steering bracket bolts and remove the bracket.





19. Disconnect the two generator electrical connectors.





20. Remove the air conditioning line bracket nut on the generator stud.





21. Remove the generator bolts and remove the generator.





22. Disconnect the wide-open A/C cutoff (WAC) switch electrical connector.
23. Position the high side A/C line aside.
24. Disconnect the fuel lines.





25. Disconnect the emissions vapor management hose.





26. Remove the lower steering column shaft bolt.
27. Remove the lower steering column shaft from the steering rack and position aside.





28. Disconnect the RH side A/C reservoir vacuum connections.





29. Disconnect the LH side vacuum connections for the vapor management valve.





30. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle linkage.





31. Remove the accelerator cable bracket nut.





32. Remove the accelerator cable bracket nut.





33. Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
a. Remove the nut.
b. Remove the accelerator cable bracket.





34. Remove the accelerator and cruise control cables from the retaining clip.





35. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) bulk head connector and the body ground connector.





36. Disconnect the engine bulk head connector.





37. Loosen and remove the two heater core hoses.
38. Remove the transmission fill tube.





39. Remove the power steering cooler nuts and the power steering cooler.
40. Raise and support the vehicle.





41. Disconnect the ground cable from the front engine cover.





42. Remove the ground strap from the stud bolt at the rear of the lower intake manifold.





43. Remove the battery to starter relay cable from the retainer on the engine front cover.





44. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines from the retainer by the RH engine mount.
45. Remove the starter.
46. Remove the transmission inspection cover.
47. Remove the torque converter nuts.
48. Remove the transmission to engine block bolts and shift cable from transmission.





49. Disconnect the LH heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.





50. Disconnect the RH heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.





51. Disconnect the transmission bulk head connector.
52. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum supply line at the LH rear upper intake connection.
53. Disconnect the low oil level sensor electrical connector.





54. Remove the oil filter.
55. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
56. Remove the LH and RH exhaust manifolds.





57. Remove the two LH motor mounts nuts.





58. Remove the two RH motor mounts nuts.





59. Install Engine Lift Brackets.
a. Install the two stud bolts.
b. Install a 7.5 mm spacer.
c. Install Engine Lift Bracket.
d. Install the engine lift bracket nut.

NOTE: LH front Engine Lift Bracket and RH rear Engine Lift Bracket are installed using the same procedure. Lift brackets are installed on the exhaust studs for the number one and number eight cylinders.

60. Install Engine Spreader Bar on Engine Lift Brackets.





61. Install a suitable engine lifting sling to the Spreader Bar and position around crankshaft vibration damper to support the front of the engine.
62. Remove the engine and place it on a suitable engine stand.
