Vehicle Damage Warnings
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS1. Always disconnect the battery ground cable prior to working on the electronic engine controls.
NOTE: When battery voltage is removed from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), all learned values will be cleared and reset to predetermined values. When battery voltage is restored to the PCM, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveability and performance.
2. Disconnect the PCM from wire harness before measuring for continuity, resistance or energizing with any voltage source.
3. Never measure voltage or resistance directly at the PCM.
ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If the modules are exposed to these charges, damage may result. Refer to Module Service Precautions.
THROTTLE POSITION SENSORS
CAUTION: Slide the rotary tangs of the TP sensor, rotated one quarter turn clockwise away from their final installed position, into place over the throttle shaft blade, and then rotate the TP sensor counterclockwise only to the installed position. Failure to install the TP sensor in this manner may result in excessive idle speeds.
IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE
CAUTION: If scraping is necessary, be sure not to damage the IAC valve or the throttle body gasket surfaces or drop the gasket material into the throttle body.
CAUTION: The IAC valve has a sludge resistant design and must not be cleaned, or damage to the anti-sludge coating may result.
