Fuel Injector: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The fuel injector is a solenoid operated valve that meters fuel flow to each combustion chamber.
OPERATION
The fuel injector is opened and closed a constant number of times per crankshaft revolution by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), which controls the ground signal.
The amount of fuel is controlled by the length of time (pulse width) that the injector is held open.
CONSTRUCTION
The injector is a normally closed solenoid and is operated by 12 Volt Power (VPWR) from the power relay.
