Non-Functional Switch






REMOVAL
1. Remove the battery cables.
(1) Remove the battery ground cable.
(2) Remove the battery to starter relay cable and wait one minute for the backup power supply to be deleted.

2. Remove the steering wheel.





3. Twist off the cap from the ignition switch lock cylinder.





4. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
(1) Prick-punch pin and drill out with 1/8 in bit. Do not drill deeper than 13 mm (1/2 in). Put a piece of tape 13 mm (1/2 in) from tip of bit. Take care not to damage housing.
(2) Use a 3/8-inch diameter drill to drill down the middle of the ignition lock key slot until the ignition switch lock cylinder breaks loose.
(3) Remove and discard the ignition switch lock cylinder and drill shavings from the steering column.





5. Remove the bearing retainer.





6. Remove the bearing and the gear.
^ Thoroughly clean all drill shavings from the steering column and inspect it for damage.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE:
^ Use a new ignition switch lock cylinder.
^ When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km ( 10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.
