Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Senses a missing tooth on crankshaft damper.

OPERATION
Generates a CKP signal which is sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM counts this signal for engine RPM.

CONSTRUCTION
The CKP sensor is a variable reluctance sensor.
