Load Test

The battery must be fully charged before performing the Starter Load Test.
1. Set the parking brake and shift the transmission into NEUTRAL.
2. To prevent the engine from starting, disconnect the wiring at the ignition coil.
3. Connect Alternator, Regulator, Battery, and Starter Tester (ARBST). Make sure that the current is not flowing through the ammeter and the heavy-duty carbon pile rheostat portion of the circuit (rheostat at maximum counter-clockwise position).
4. Connect the remote starter switch across the starter relay S- and battery terminal.
5. Turn the key to RUN.
6. Crank the engine and with the remote starter switch and determine the exact reading on the voltmeter.
7. Stop cranking the engine and reduce the resistance of the carbon pile until the voltmeter indicates the same reading as that obtained while the starter motor cranked the engine. The ammeter will indicate the starter current draw under load. Check this with the value listed in Starter Specifications. [1][2]Electrical Specifications
