System Flushing

WARNING: DO NOT MIX OIL TYPES. ANY MIXTURE OR ANY UNAPPROVED OIL COULD LEAD TO SEAL DETERIORATION AND LEAKS. A LEAK COULD ULTIMATELY CAUSE LOSS OF FLUID, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST.

1. Remove the ignition coil fuse (fuse 19) to disable the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the power steering return line hose.
3. Attach an extension hose between the power steering return line hose and an empty container.
4. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir.
^ Use Motorcraft MERCON(R) ATF meeting Ford specification MERCON(R).

5. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while cranking the engine until the fluid exiting the extension hose runs clear.
6. Disconnect the extension hose and attach the power steering return line hose to the power steering fluid reservoir.
7. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir.
^ Use Motorcraft MERCON(R) ATF meeting Ford specification MERCON(R).

CAUTION: Do not overfill the power steering fluid reservoir.

8. While cranking the engine, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.

CAUTION: Do not hold the steering wheel in the far left or right position or damage to the power steering system may result.

9. Install the ignition coil fuse.
10. Clear the DTC's.
