Valve Train Analysis - Dynamic
After the engine has been started and is idling check the following for proper operation of all parts.Rocker Arms
1. Check for plugged oil feeds in rocker arms, rocker arm shafts, valve tappets, and cylinder head.
2. Check for proper overhead valve train lubrication.
Valves and Cylinder Head
1. Check for plugged oil drain-back holes.
2. Check for missing or damaged valve stem seals or guide-mounted oil seals.
3. If a condition of insufficient oiling is suspected, check oil passages for blockages, then accelerate the engine to 1200 RPM with the transaxle in PARK (P) and the engine at normal operating temperature. Oil should spurt from the rocker arm oil holes so that valve tips and rocker arms are well oiled.
NOTE: With the valve cover off, some oil may overshoot the rocker arms.
