Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer concern by running the engine and listening to it idle.
2. Check color of exhaust smoke.
3. Check oil level and condition.
4. Check the wiring harness for obvious signs of shorts, opens, bad connections, or damage.
5. Check vacuum hoses for leaks and loose connections.
6. If fault is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to the Symptom Chart.
