Displaying and Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to retrieve or clear trouble codes. Code retrieval is integrated into the EATC Module Self-Test. Ford DOES NOT provide an alternate procedure for performing the Self-Test with an NGS or generic tester tester.

NOTE:
- In Self Test, the EATC calibrates the outside/recirculation door actuator, front and rear temperature blend door actuators and the panel/floor/defrost mode door actuator. The EATC also checks sensors and feedback wires for faults.
- Exit Self Test before powering the system down (turning the key to OFF). Intermittent DTCs will be deleted after 80 ignition switch ON cycles after the intermittent condition occurs.
- The Self Test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the Self Test is activated.

- To enter EATC Self Test (self-diagnostics mode), set the interior temperature between 18°C (65°F) and 29°C (85°F).

NOTE: If the interior temperature is not set within the specified range, a false A/C in-car temperature control sensor Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be displayed.

- Press OFF and floor symbol button simultaneously then release these buttons and press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The Self Test will display a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window for approximately 30-60 seconds before starting to display DTCs. DTCs are displayed at a rate of one DTC per second until you exit Self Test.

NOTE: There are two types of DTCs: hard fault and intermittent fault. Hard faults are errors detected during Self Test. Intermittent faults are errors that occurred during normal operation of the EATC but displayed in Self Test.

- To exit Self Test and retain DTCs, push the blue (down arrow) on the TEMP button. To exit Self Test and retain DTCs, push the blue (down arrow) on the TEMP button.

NOTE: After exiting Self Test, the EATC system should return to the OFF mode.

- To exit Self Test and clear all DTCs, press the defrost symbol button. The display window will show 88 and all the function symbols for one second.
- If any diagnostic trouble codes appear during Self Test, then record the DTCs and follow the diagnostic procedure given under ACTION for the DTC given.
- If the system has not detected any fault conditions, all segments and icons in the display window will be lit constantly until you exit Self Test.
- If a condition exists but no DTCs appear during the Self Test, refer to Symptom Chart Condition: EATC System Inoperative, Intermittent or Improper Operation.
