The Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) lighting operates only when the ignition switch is in the ON position. When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the displays of all gauges and of the message center will prove out by momentarily lighting all of the display segments. The following warning indicators also will prove out:
- Charging system
- Safety belt
- Air bag
- Brake system
- Low oil
- Anti-lock brake
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) (CHECK ENGINE)
- Overdrive (O/D) off

After the prove out, the EIC returns to normal operation.
