Test Notes

You should only enter this pinpoint test when directed here.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Harness circuits: CKP, SIG RTN
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor

DESCRIPTION
The CKP sensor is an input to the PCM. The PCM uses the RPM information received from the CKP sensor to perform engine misfire diagnostics. The sensor consists of a permanent magnet, core and coil. The CKP sensor is located on the transmission housing and faces the flywheel teeth. As the flywheel teeth pass the CKP sensor it's magnetic field changes, this causes the CKP sensor voltage to change. The PCM uses this voltage data to determine engine speed. By interpreting the fluctuational changes in engine speed, the PCM can detect an engine misfire.
