Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Without Scan Tool

PROCEDURE
The diagnostic connector is used to activate the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) when the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester or equivalent is not available.
1. Key OFF.

2. Access the diagnostic connector, located on the driver side of the engine compartment, near the battery, and disconnect the harness connectors.
3. Key ON.

4. Using a suitable jumper wire, connect Pin 3 to Pin 6.
5. After two seconds remove jumper wire and reconnect diagnostic connectors.

6. Observe MIL and count light flashes.
7. In the manual diagnostic test mode a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is indicated by the number of blinks of the MIL. Treat the four digit DTC number as though it were two separate groups of two digits each. The first group represented by long blinks (0.6 sec.blink) and the second group of two digits by short blinks (0.3 sec blinks).

Example: the MIL blinks ten long blinks (0.6 secs each) and then it blinks three short blinks (0.3 secs each). This indicates the DTC 1003. Using this method, all detected malfunctions are classified by their DTC numbers. The DTC 0505 (five long blinks and five short blinks) indicates no malfunction.

8. To return vehicle to normal mode, turn key OFF.
