Air Intake System
PURPOSE
Intake Air System The intake air system filters, controls, silences, and delivers fresh air to the engine. The system consists of:
- Air cleaner intake tube
- Engine Air Cleaner (ACL)
- Air cleaner element
- Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Air cleaner to intake manifold tube
- Upper intake manifold
- Lower intake manifold
- Engine intake air resonators
- Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor
OPERATION
Air enters the system through the air cleaner intake tube. The air then flows through the engine air cleaner and is metered by the MAF sensor. The metered air passes through the air cleaner to intake manifold tube and enters the throttle body. From the throttle body, the air passes through the upper intake manifold to the lower intake manifold, where it is mixed with fuel for combustion.
FEATURES
To reduce intake noise, three engine intake air resonators are part of the system. These three components absorb air flow pulsations as air is drawn into the system.
