Fuel Pump: Service and Repair


REMOVAL

WARNING:
- Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
- Fuel supply tubes will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shutdown. This pressure must be relieved before servicing of the fuel system is begun.

1. Remove the fuel tank.

Fuel Pump Removal:





2. Clean the area around the cover plate.
3. Remove the six cover plate bolts.
4. Lift out the pump and discard the O-ring.

CAUTION: The fuel pump MUST be tipped to remove it properly. Do not lift the pump straight out or damage may occur to the sending unit.

INSTALLATION

1. Install a new fuel pump O-ring.
2. Carefully install the new fuel pump.
3. Install the six fuel pump cover bolts and evenly tighten in a cross-pattern to 18-21 in lb (2.0 2.4 Nm).
4. Install the fuel tank.
5. Start and test drive the vehicle.
- Verify that there are no leaks or driveability problems.
