HARD START - COLD TEMPERATURES AND/OR HIGH ALTITUDES - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 9/1/97

LIGHT TRUCK:
1997 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
A hard start and/or no start condition may be present on some vehicles during cold ambient temperatures and/or high altitudes. This may be caused by a rich fuel mixture being delivered during cranking which may flood the engine.

ACTION:
Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The revised calibration provides a reduced amount of fuel during cranking to reduce the possibility of flooding. Refer to the 1997 Villager Service Manual for replacement procedures.

Obtain an Authorized Modification Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
