Replacement





REMOVAL
1. Place a drain pan under the steering gear.
2. Remove the three brake master cylinder reservoir bracket screws. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir and wire it out of the way.





3. Remove the junction block/high-pressure line from the steering gear. Position the junction block/high-pressure line out of the way.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.
6. Remove the front stabilizer bar.
7. Remove the tie rod ends.
8. Pull back the front suspension steering bail stud dust seal and have an assistant turn the front wheel spindle tie rod until the clamp bolt is accessible.
9. Remove the lower steering column shaft clamp bolt.





10. Loosen the power steering return hose clamp and remove the power steering return hose from the steering gear. Move the power steering return hose out of the way.





11. Remove the five steering gear bracket bolts.
12. Remove the steering gear brackets.
13. Carefully lower the steering gear to free it from the lower steering column shaft, and slide it to the left and remove it from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Carefully slide the steering gear in to place from the left side of the vehicle. Position the power steering gear input shaft so it is just below the lower steering column shaft clamp.





2. Raise the steering gear until the plastic aligning tab on the power steering gear input shaft enters the clamp bolt gap on the lower steering column shaft.

NOTE: The steering gear brackets are marked UP with arrows pointing to one end of the bracket. Make sure that the steering gear brackets are installed correctly.

3. Install the steering gear brackets.





4. Install the five steering gear bracket bolts. Tighten the five steering gear bracket bolts to 73-97 Nm (54-72 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.





5. Install the power steering return hose to the steering gear. Tighten the power steering return hose clamp.
6. Install the lower steering column shaft clamp bolt. Tighten the lower steering column shaft clamp bolt to 24-29 Nm (17-22 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the front suspension steering ball stud dust seal over the steering gear.
8. Install the tie rod ends.
9. Install the front stabilizer bar.
10. Install the front wheel and tire assemblies. Tighten the lug nuts to 98-118 Nm (72-87 ft. lbs.).
11. Lower the vehicle.





12. Install the junction block/high-pressure line. Tighten the junction block/high-pressure line to 15-25 Nm (11-18 ft. lbs.).
13. Remove the wire and position the brake master cylinder reservoir. Install the two brake master cylinder reservoir screws.
14. Follow the start-up procedure. Start-Up Procedure After Power Steering Pump or Gear Service
