Computers and Control Systems: Description and Operation
Component Locations 5.0L Shown, 4.0L (Push Rod) Similar:
The electronic engine controls consist of the:
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Throttle Position (TP) sensor.
- Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.
- Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor.
- Camshaft synchronizer.
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
- Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) sensor.
- Intake Air Temperature sensor (IAT) sensor.
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).
The electronic engine controls monitor and adjust the engine timing, ignition system, emissions controls, spark advance, and air/fuel mixtures based on input from the engine and other control system sensors.
