Disc Brake System: Service Precautions

1. Grease or any other foreign material must be kept off of the brake pad and lining and braking surfaces of the front disc brake rotor, and the external surfaces of the wheel hub during the service operations. In handling the front disc brake rotor and front disc brake caliper, avoid deformation of the front disc brake rotor and nicking or scratching the front brake pads and linings.
2. If a caliper piston is removed for any reason, replace the piston seal. Protect the caliper piston from contact with any metal or sharp objects.

CAUTION: Do not pry on the caliper piston with a screwdriver or other tools. Tools will cause chipping, nicks, and gouges.

3. During removal and installation of a wheel and tire assembly, do not interfere with and/or damage the front disc brake rotor shield or the bleeder screw.
4. Before servicing any front end components, make sure the vehicle is centered on the hoist to avoid bending or damaging the front disc brake rotor shield on full right or left wheel turns.
5. Do not attempt to clean or restore oil or grease-soaked front brake pads and linings. When contaminated front brake pads and linings are found, the front brake pads and linings must be replaced in complete sets and the front disc brake rotor braking surfaces wiped clean.
6. Front disc brake calipers must be installed with the bleeder screw in an upward position for proper bleeding of the air from the brake hydraulic system.
