Timing Components: Adjustments

NOTE: Ford does not provide a TDC (Top Dead Center) mark or determination procedure for this engine in this vehicle.
ALLDATA users have reported success using aftermarket tools to determine TDC on this engine.

1. Remove the upper and lower engine front covers.
2. Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt.

3. Turn the crankshaft sprocket clockwise until the No.1 piston (rear right cylinder) is at Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke.

4. Verify that the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets and the seal plate are aligned. The timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pump housing must also be aligned.
5. If the timing marks are not aligned properly, remove the timing chain/belt and install it properly.
6. Install the upper and lower engine front covers.
