System Operation
The Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) will automatically control all functions necessary for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The EATC system maintains the preferred or target temperature for vehicle passenger comfort. The system also allows for manual adjustment of the blower motor speed and the air flow direction.
To toggle the English/Metric mode on the climate control assembly, press the defrost and A/C button simultaneously and hold the blower motor control against the upper overtravel position for one second.
AUTOMATIC OVERTRAVEL
Pressing the AUTOMATIC button changes the system into fully automatic operation. With the system in automatic, the display window will indicate the preferred or target temperature and AUTO. When operating under automatic control, the system controls:
^ Airflow direction to the appropriate ducts.
- When heat is required, through the floor ducts, the side window register and a small amount of air through the defroster duct.
- When cooling is required, airflow through to the instrument panel A/C registers.
^ Front blower speed that may be manually overridden without canceling the other functions of automatic mode.
^ If heating is required and the engine is cold, air flow is directed to defrost. As coolant temperature rises, air flow shifts to the panel/floor.
^ When selecting a mode in automatic operation, the mode button selected lights. However, the A/C compressor will not engage until the A/C button is pushed.
^ Discharge temperature required with the A/C air temperature control door.
^ The rear blend door will track the front blend door when the EATC climate control assembly fan speed is in any position except REAR or OFF.
OFF
After pressing the OFF button the display window will be blank and the system controls:
^ Blower motor is off.
^ Air intake door is set to full recirculation.
^ A/C clutch is disabled.
^ Rear blower motor is off.
TEMP
Push the TEMP button:
^ On the down arrow side (blue) will lower the temperature setting.
^ Press the button once to lower the setting one degree.
^ Hold the button down to reduce the temperature setting in one degree increments to 18°C (65°F). It then goes to 15°C (60°F) in one jump.
^ 15°C (60°F) is the maximum cooling temperature.
^ On the up arrow side (red) will raise the temperature setting.
^ Press the button once to raise the setting one degree.
^ Hold the button down to increase the temperature setting in one degree increments to 29°C (85°F). It then goes to 32°C (90°F) in one jump.
^ 32°C (90°F) is the maximum heating position.
A/C
Press the A/C button to manually operate the A/C compressor.
MIX
Press the mix button:
^ Directs airflow to the defrost ducts and the floor duct.
^ Sets air intake door to full fresh to prevent fogging.
DEFROST
After pressing the defrost button:
^ Airflow is directed to the defroster ducts.
^ The A/C clutch is enabled, even if the A/C function is off.
^ The air intake door is set to full fresh to prevent fogging.
PANEL
After pressing the panel button:
^ Airflow is directed to the instrument panel A/C registers.
^ When the blend door is in the full cool position, the air bypass door is opened to provide additional airflow.
PANEL/FLOOR
Pressing the panel/floor button directs the airflow to the instrument panel A/C registers and the floor duct.
FLOOR
Pressing the floor button directs the airflow to the floor duct.
