Evacuation and Charging

Charging From Small Containers
Ford does not recommend the use of small containers for A/C system charging. Use Rotunda R-134a A/C Service Center 176-00001 or Rotunda R-134a Mobile Recycle Center 023-00150 or equivalent or a charging cylinder.

Charging With a Charging Cylinder
1. Connect the manifold gauge set. Manifold Gauge Set Connection
2. Recover the refrigerant system. Refrigerant Recovery
3. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Evacuation
4. Connect the center hose of the manifold gauge set to a refrigerant cylinder. If a Rotunda R-134a A/C Service Center 176-00001 or Rotunda R-134a Mobile Recycle Center 023-00150 or equivalent is used, follow the instructions of the manufacturer.

NOTE: Keep the refrigerant cylinder in the upright position.

5. Open the high-pressure valve on the manifold gauge set to allow refrigerant to enter the system. Continue to add refrigerant until the specified amount is drawn into the system.

CAUTION: Do not open the high-pressure valve while the engine is running.

6. Close the high-pressure valve.
7. Start the engine and turn on the air conditioning.
8. Check the air conditioning system for proper operation.
9. Stop the engine.
10. Disconnect the manifold gauge set.
