Toe
1. Lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position.NOTE: Perform the steering angle check before toe measurement.
2. Check toe against specifications. If necessary, adjust toe as follows:
Loosen the front wheel spindle tie rod jam nuts at the tie rod ends and release the clamps at the small ends of the front suspension steering ball stud dust seals.
^ Be sure the front suspension steering ball stud dust seals are free on the front wheel spindle tie rods so they will not be twisted when the front wheel spindle tie rods are turned.
^ The left and right front wheel spindle tie rods are both right threaded. To increase the toe-in, turn the RH and LH front wheel spindle tie rod out of the tie rod end to make the effective length longer.
3. Turn the front wheel spindle tie rods into or out of the tie rod ends an equal amount on each side to keep the steering wheel centered.
^ One turn of the front wheel spindle tie rod (both sides) changes-the toe by approximately 6 mm (1/4 inch).
4. Check the front tracking. Set the tracking by using the rear wheels as a reference point. Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions to check tracking. The angle of each front wheel in relationship to the rear wheels must be the same. This ensures that the steering wheel will be centered.
NOTE: Always set tracking directly after setting toe.
5. Always double-check the toe after setting tracking.
6. When toe is correct, tighten the front wheel spindle tie rod jam nuts to 41-81 Nm (30-60 ft. lbs.). Verify that the ends of the front suspension steering ball stud dust seals are positioned correctly on the appropriate sections and install the clamps.
