Transmission Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

The Pulse Signal Generator (PSG), also called the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor, is a magnetic-pickup located on the side cover. It detects the idler gear speed. There are 45 projections on the idler gear. As the idler gear rotates, the PSG produces an AC wave and sends it to the transmission control module and the powertrain control module.
