Shift Interlock: Description and Operation

A shift lock actuator prevents free movement of the gearshift lever from PARK (P). With the ignition switch in the ON position, the brake pedal must be applied to move the gearshift lever out of PARK (P). Once the gearshift lever is moved from PARK (P), free movement of the gearshift lever is possible.

With the ignition switch in the OFF position (but not locked), the gearshift lever can be moved out of PARK (P) without applying the brake pedal.
