Shift Cable and Bracket Replacement - Column Shift
REMOVAL1. Apply the parking brake and/or block the tires to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Carefully pull the shift cable from the end of the transmission selector lever arm and support.
3. Squeeze the lock tabs and remove the shift cable and bracket from the underdash bracket.
4. Remove the two nuts and the two bolts from the parking brake pedal assembly and place the parking brake pedal assembly aside.
5. Remove the two shift cable-to-bulkhead bracket nuts and the shift cable-to-bulkhead bracket.
6. Pull upward with a slight rocking motion to remove the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
7. Raise and support the vehicle.
8. Remove the LH inner engine and transmission splash shield.
9. Remove the shift cable and bracket nut from the manual shift linkage rod.
10. Use a small screwdriver to disengage the shift cable locking pin.
11. Remove the shift cable and bracket from the transmission shift cable bracket.
12. Pull the end of the shift cable and bracket from the Transmission Range (TR) switch.
13. Pull the shift cable and bracket from the steering actuator housing end to remove the shift cable and bracket from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
2. Adjust the shift cable.
- Tighten the parking brake pedal assembly nuts and bolts to 8 - 11 Nm (71 - 97 inch lbs.).
