Flushing
Special Tools:
1. WARNING: Do not open the cooling system while it is hot or while the engine is running.
Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove the water thermostat.
3. Install the water hose connection without the water thermostat.
4. NOTE: Refer to the cooling system Flush-All Operating Instructions for specific vehicle hook-up.
Use cooling system Flush-All, Flush Kit Hardware Package and Drain Kit to flush the engine and radiator.
For cooling systems filled with Premium Engine Coolant E2FZ-9549-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A (green color), use Ford Premium Cooling System Flush F1AZ-19A503-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M14P7-A (that is safe for use with aluminum radiators), to remove rust, sludge and other foreign material from the cooling system. For vehicles filled with Ford Extended Life Engine Coolant F6AZ-19544-AA (orange) or DEX-COOL equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44D, use warm water to remove rust, sludge and other foreign material from the cooling system.
5. Install the water thermostat.
6. Back flush the heater core if necessary.
7. Fill the cooling system.
