Steps 53 - 85








53. Remove the eight 12 mm bolts and two 8 mm bolts in sequence and remove the RH cylinder head.





54. Remove the bolt and stud bolts and the engine front cover.





55. Remove the bolts and the oil pan.





56. Remove the bolts and the oil pump screen cover and tube.





57. Remove the bolts.





58. Remove the frame bolts.





59. Remove the bolts and nuts. Remove the lower cylinder block.





60. Remove the bolts and the oil pump.





61. Remove the bolts and the chain tensioner.





62. Remove the bolts and the chain guide.





63. Remove the rear jackshaft plug from the rear of the cylinder block.





64. Install the special tool at the rear of the jackshaft.





65. Loosen the front sprocket retaining bolt.





66. With special tool still in place, loosen the rear sprocket retaining bolt.





67. NOTE: It may be required to hold the oil pump intermediate shaft, using an E-12 external TORX socket, in order to remove the bolts if bolts do not turn out easily at this time.

Remove the bolt.





68. Remove the jackshaft sprocket and chain.





69. Remove the bolt and remove the front cassette.





70. Remove the bolt and spacer.





71. Remove the bolt and remove the cassette.





72. Remove the bolt and the oil pump drive.





73. Remove the bolts.





74. Remove the jackshaft.





75. On 4 x 4 vehicles, remove the balance shaft tensioner and the chain guide.





76. NOTE: DO NOT remove balance shaft sprocket bolt. On 4 x 4 vehicles, remove the balance shaft chain and crankshaft sprocket.





77. On 4 x 4 vehicles, remove the balance shaft.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the balance shaft.





78. Use Cylinder Ridge Reamer to remove the ridge and/or carbon deposits from the top of each cylinder.





79. Remove the piston and connecting rod assemblies.
1 Remove the connecting rod nuts.
2 Remove the connecting rod caps.





80. Install rubber hose pieces on the bolts to protect the crankshaft and remove the pistons.

81. Remove the connecting rod bearings.





82. Remove the bolts.





83. Remove the crankshaft main bearing caps.





84. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from the crankshaft.





85. Remove the crankshaft from the cylinder block.





86. Remove the crankshaft main bearings and the thrust bearing.
