Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair
A/C Flusher:
SPECIAL TOOL
REMOVAL
NOTE:
^ Vehicles that have an inoperative A/C compressor, due to internal causes, must have the refrigerant system cleaned by flushing or filtering. This removes any foreign materials or contaminants that may be present to prevent damage to the new A/C compressor.
^ Whenever the A/C compressor is replaced, a new A/C evaporator core orifice must also be installed.
^ Installation of a new suction accumulator/drier is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator/drier.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant.
3. Remove the engine drive belt.
4. Disconnect the:
A. A/C clutch electrical connector and remove the:
B. power steering hose clamp nut.
5. Remove the bolt.
6. Remove the A/C compressor.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Lift out the A/C compressor.
7. If equipped, transfer the heat shield to the new compressor.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Service the new A/C compressor with the proper amount of PAG compressor oil, YN-12-C, F7AZ-19589-DA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
^ Lubricate the new A/C manifold O-rings with PAG compressor oil, YN-12-C, F7AZ-19589-DA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
^ Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon (R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 to the threads of the A/C manifold retaining bolt.
