Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Attachment III - Technical Information

OVERVIEW

This program involves checking the existing PCM calibration (PCM ID) using either Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) or New Generation Star (NGS) Tester. Once you have recorded the PCM ID information, you will need to compare it to the Application/Calibration Chart to see if reprogramming is necessary. If a later calibration is available other than what is listed in the chart, reprogram the PCM to the latest level.

NOTE:
If you discover that the PCM is already at the latest level, do not attempt to perform the reprogram procedure. No further service is required except to install an Authorized Modification Label.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Proceed to the appropriate procedure depending on your choice of diagnostic tools.

^ If using Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS), use WDS CD-ROM B10 release (or subsequent release if applicable) available via Fordstar, or for non-Ford star dealers available at:
http://www.fordtechservice.com/vdirs/wds

^ If using Service Bay Technical System (SBTS) and the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester with Rotunda Flash Cable (007-00531) and Rotunda Flash Card (007-00532), use the October release CD-ROM (or subsequent release if applicable).

RETRIEVING PCM INFORMATION AND REPROGRAMMING USING WORLDWIDE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM

1. Connect the WDS to the vehicle DLC.

2. Select 16 PIN, then select ALL EXCEPT THOSE BELOW.

3. Verify the transmission selector is in either PARK or NEUTRAL, set the parking brake and turn the ignition ON.

6. Verify Vehicle Specifications.

7. Go to LOG VIEWER.

8. Note the PCM ID information.

9. Locate the appropriate application in the Application/Calibration Chart and determine if reprogramming is required.

10. If the PCM requires reprogramming, go to continue with Step 11. If reprogramming is not required, proceed to Preparing Authorized Modification Label.

11. To reprogram the PCM, go to the TOOL BOX.

12. Select MODULE PROGRAMMING.

13. Select MODULE REPROGRAMMING.

14. Select PCM.

15. Answer YES when asked to reprogram.
