Door Locks: Description and Operation

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
The doors can be locked by moving the door lock knob to the locked position or by turning the door lock cylinder. The doors can be unlocked by moving the door lock knob to the unlocked position or by turning the door lock cylinder.

The doors and liftgate may all be locked or unlocked by pressing the door lock switch on either the driver front door, passenger front door, or liftgate. Locking and unlocking of the doors and liftgate is accomplished through the door lock actuator assemblies or the liftgate lock actuator assembly.

The doors and the liftgate automatically lock when the driver door lock knob is moved to the locked position by either turning the driver door lock cylinder or by manually moving the driver door lock knob itself.

The power lock system is also equipped with a delayed sliding door lock feature. This delayed locking feature works when the sliding door is open and the doors are locked using the power lock system. As soon as the sliding door is closed, the door will automatically lock. The sliding door courtesy lamp switch is used by the Smart Entry Control (SEC)/timer module for the delayed locking feature to sense when the sliding door is open.

Child Safety Lock
The child safety lock, when activated, prevents the sliding door from being opened from the interior of the vehicle regardless of door lock position. The child safety lock has been designed into the front sliding door latch. The child safety lock label indicates the two positions of the child safety lock. When the child safety lock knob is pulled out, the child safety lock is in the locked position and the sliding door cannot be opened from the interior of the vehicle. When the child safety lock knob is pushed in, the child safety lock is in the unlock position, and the sliding door can be opened from either the interior or the exterior of the vehicle.
