14. NOTE: Make sure all six piston rods are installed into the original cylinder bores during assembly.

NOTE: All six pistons and rod assemblies are installed the same way. Only one piston and rod assembly is shown.

NOTE: The connecting rod assemblies are numbered designating to which connecting rod each cap belongs.

NOTE: Use a hammer handle or a piece of wood to tap the piston and connecting rod into the cylinder bore. Guide the connecting rod bolts over the crankshaft journal.

NOTE: Make sure during installation of the piston assemblies that the front mark on the piston head faces toward the front of the engine.

NOTE: Dip the pistons into Super Premium SAE 5W-30 XO-5W30-QSP meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.

Install the pistons.
15. Remove the rubber hoses from the connecting rod bolts.

16. CAUTION: Install the bearings so the oil hole in the connecting rod aligns with the oil hole in the connecting rod bearing or bearing damage will occur.

Install new oil pan seals on the oil pan.
- Apply Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G343-A4 to the oil pan seals.

25. Apply a bead of Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G343-A4 to the oil pan as shown.

26. Position the oil pan and install the oil pan bolts in the sequence shown.

27. Install the crankshaft sprocket
1. Install the crankshaft key.
2. Install the inner timing belt guide.
3. Install the crankshaft sprocket.

28. NOTE: Make sure the mating surface between the water pump and the cylinder block are free of old sealant material.

Install the water pump gasket to the water pump.

29. Position the water pump and install the bolts.

30. NOTE: Cylinder head installation is the same for both cylinder heads. Repeat the installation procedure for both cylinder heads.

Position the cylinder head gasket.

31. Position the cylinder head.

32. CAUTION: The cylinder head bolts located in positions 4, 7, 9, and 12 are 127 mm (5.08 inch) in length and all others are 106 mm (4.24 inch) in length.

CAUTION: The cylinder head bolt washers must be installed with the chamfered edge facing away from the cylinder head surface.

CAUTION: It is necessary to apply Super Premium SAE 5W-30 XO-5W-30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSS-M2C153-G to the threads and seating surfaces of the cylinder head bolts before installing.

Install the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown.
