PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
All but three lamps of the interior lighting system are controlled by the Smart Entry Control (SEC)/timer module. This is done by controlling the ground to the lamps. The power circuit is common to all interior lamps and is supplied by fuse junction panel fuse F53 (15 A). All of the lamps are divided into three zones. The courtesy lamps are divided into two zones: A and B; the demand lighting is controlled by zone C. Zone A controls the ground for the driver and passenger door lamps, the map lamp in door mode, and the two footwell lamps. Zone B controls the ground for the two side door lamps, the two reading lamps, and the liftgate lamp. Zone C controls the ground for the demand lighting. The lamps included on this circuit are the glove box and the two reading lamps. The map lamp when its in on mode and the two vanity lamps are not connected to the SEC/timer module.
The interior lamps will be illuminated when a door is opened, the remote transmitter is operated, or if the engine has been shut off and the key is removed from the ignition. The courtesy lamps attached to zones A and B will stay illuminated for 20 seconds. At the end of 20 seconds, the courtesy lamps will dim to 50% of original brightness for 9.5 seconds. The courtesy lamps will then ramp down to 0% brightness within the next 5 seconds. The courtesy lamp will also turn off immediately if the key is turned to the RUN position or if the lock button is pressed on the remote transmitter.
The SEC/timer module acts as the battery saver module for all zones. If the ignition key is off and the driver, passenger, or side door(s) is left open for more than 30 minutes, the interior lamps in zones A and B will be shut off. If the ignition key is off and the liftgate is left open for more than 60 minutes, the interior lamps in zones A and B will be shut off. Zone C is turned off when the key is removed from the ignition and 30 minutes have elapsed. The timer will be reset and zone C will be turned back on if the key is put back in the ignition switch or if a door is opened or closed. All timers are reset if any door/liftgate is opened or closed.
