Steering Gear Insulator
1. Park the vehicle on dry and level pavement.
2. Install a dial indicator and mounting base. Position the dial indicator on the steering gear housing. Zero the dial indicator.
3. Apply a lateral force of 5 Kg (11 lbs.) to the steering wheel. Measure the steering gear housing movement.
^ If the measurement exceeds the steering gear housing movement specification, inspect steering gear for loose bolts, and damaged or worn mounting brackets and insulators. Tighten or install new components as necessary.
