P0510 - Closed Throttle Position Switch Malfunction

The closed Throttle Position (TP) switch and the TP sensor circuits are monitored by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The test fails when the PCM receives battery voltage from the closed TP switch and a signal from the TP sensor which indicates the throttle valve is open.

Possible Causes:
^ Closed TP switch circuit is shorted
^ Closed TP switch
^ TP sensor

Diagnostic Aids:
With the throttle valve fully open the TP PID should read approximately 80% and the voltage at the throttle position switch should be 0 volts. With the throttle valve fully closed the TP PID should read 0% and the voltage at the closed TP switch should be battery voltage.
