Removal

Removal
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
2. Drain the engine cooling system.
3. Remove the engine air cleaner outlet tube.
4. Drain the engine oil.





^ Remove the oil pan drain plug.

5. CAUTION: Be sure to clean drain plug and install with new washer.





Install the oil pan drain plug.





6. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
^ Disconnect the rear engine harness electrical connector.
^ Disconnect the Crank Position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.





7. Disconnect the starter motor wiring harness electrical connector.





8. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
^ Disconnect the valve body wiring harness electrical connector.
^ Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) electrical connector.





9. Disconnect the emission control components.
1 Disconnect the Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure (MAP/BARO) sensor electrical connector.
2 Disconnect the MAP/BARO sensor vacuum hose.
3 Disconnect the vapor canister purge test port.

10. WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.





Disconnect the fuel lines.
1 Remove the fuel supply line bolts.
2 Disconnect the fuel supply line.
3 Disconnect the fuel return line.





11. Disconnect the vapor canister purge vacuum line.





12. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.





13. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connectors.
1 Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch electrical connector.
2 Disconnect the A/C compressor high pressure cutout electrical connector.

14. NOTE: Remove the three ties holding the wiring in place.





Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.





15. Disconnect the distributor wiring electrical connectors.





16. Disconnect the main bulkhead wiring harness electrical connector.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Disconnect the connector.





17. Unclip the main bulkhead connector from the bracket.





18. Unclip the front engine wiring harness from the bracket.





19. Disconnect the vacuum hose.





20. Position the throttle and speed control cables aside.
1 Disconnect the throttle and speed control cables from the throttle body.
2 Loosen the cable end jam nuts and position the cables aside.





21. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.





22. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the coolant crossover tube.





23. Remove the engine ground cable bolt.





24. Disconnect the heater hoses.





25. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the bulkhead junction.





26. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
1 Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt tensioner bolt.
2 Remove the A/C compressor drive belt.





27. Remove the upper A/C compressor bolts.
28. Remove the wheel and tire.





29. Remove the LH side splash shield.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the splash shield.





30. Remove the RH side splash shield.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the splash shield.





31. Disconnect the transaxle connections.
1 Disconnect the Transaxle Range (TR) sensor electrical connector.
2 Remove the shift cable nut.
3 Remove shift cable from the bracket and position aside.





32. Disconnect the transaxle cooler lines from the transaxle.





33. Disconnect the oil pressure sender electrical; connector.





34. Disconnect the generator electrical connections.
1 Remove the B-terminal screw.
2 Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
3 Remove the generator ground screw.





35. Remove the generator wiring bracket screw.





36. If equipped, disconnect the engine coolant heater electrical connector.





37. Disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) electrical connector.





38. Remove the generator drive belt.
1 Loosen the generator drive belt lock bolt.
2 Loosen the generator adjustment bolt.
3 Loosen the front and rear generator to bracket bolts.
4 Remove the generator drive belt.





39. Remove the power steering drive belt.
1 Loosen the belt tensioner lock bolt.
2 Loosen the belt tensioner adjustment bolt.
3 Remove the power steering drive belt.

40. NOTE: Rotate the power steering pump pulley to access the mounting bolts.





Remove the three power steering pump bolts.





41. Remove the rear power steering bracket bolt.





42. Position the A/C compressor aside.
1 Remove the lower A/C compressor bolts.
2 Position the A/C compressor aside.

43. Remove the flexible pipe.
44. Remove the Halfshafts.





45. Disconnect the transaxle ground electrical connector.





46. Position the powertrain lift under the powertrain assembly.





47. Remove the rear transaxle support bracket nuts.





48. Remove the front transaxle support insulator through bolt.





49. Remove the transverse member bolts.
50. Lower the powertrain from the vehicle.





51. Remove the Crank Position (CKP) sensor heat shield.
1 Remove the nut.
2 Remove the heat shield.





52. Remove the CKP sensor.





53. Remove the starter motor.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the starter motor.





54. Remove the RH transaxle to engine bracket and exhaust bracket bolts.





55. Remove the LH transaxle to engine bracket bolts.





56. Remove the transaxle to engine braces.
1 Remove the lower transaxle to engine bolts.
2 Remove the transaxle inspection cover.
3 Remove the transaxle to engine braces.





57. Remove the LH engine mount bolts.





58. Remove the transverse member.
1 Remove the RH engine mount bolts.
2 Remove the transverse member.

59. NOTE: The torque converter may need to be rotated to access all of the bolts.





Remove the four torque converter bolts.





60. Remove the upper transaxle to engine bolts.
61. Separate the engine from the transaxle.





62. Attach the engine to an engine stand.
