Idle Speed: Adjustments
Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS):
SPECIAL TOOL(S)
1. Apply the parking brake.
NOTE: Make sure all vehicle accessories are turned off and the front wheels are straight.
2. Make sure the transmission is in neutral (N) or park (P).
3. Connect the scan tool or equivalent to the Data Link Connector (DLC) and start the engine.
4. Monitor the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) and rpm Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
5. Loosen the cold idle adjust nut and turn the cold idle adjust screw to align the fast idle cam cold mark with the cam follower lever roller while the ECT PID reads 20° - 30°C (66° - 86°F). Tighten the cold idle adjust nut.
NOTE: Make sure the engine cooling fan is not operating at the time of idle speed adjustments.
6. Loosen the base idle adjust nut and turn the base idle adjust screw to adjust the idle speed while the ECT PID reads 75° - 85°C (167° - 185°F) and the rpm PID reads 650-750 rpm. Tighten the base idle adjust nut.
NOTE: When the engine coolant reads 75° - 85°C (167° - 185°F), the fast idle cam warm mark should align without touching the cam lever follower.
7. Turn on the air conditioning to MAX and the blower fan on HI. Make sure the idle speed exceeds 800 rpm.
