Torque Converter Cleaning and Inspection
1. If the torque converter is not going to be replaced, flush the torque converter. Refer to Torque Converter Flushing.
2. If the torque converter is being replaced, partially fill the converter with Motorcraft MERCON Multipurpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting Ford specification MERCON and hand agitate. Drain the converter and then refill for installation. MERCON(R) Automatic Trqansmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.
3. Flush all transaxle fluid coolers and tubes.
4. All Cooler Bypass Valves (CBV), if equipped, must be cleaned.
