Seat Position Sensor: Service and Repair

SEAT POSITION SENSOR - VEHICLES BUILT 03/2002 ONWARD

Removal

WARNING:
- Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
- To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.

NOTE:
- If a seat equipped with a seat mounted side air bag and/or a safety belt pretensioner (if equipped) system is being serviced, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) must be depowered.
- The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
- The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
- The power seat is shown, the manual seat is similar.

1. NOTE:
- The seat position sensor is mounted at the LH rear of the seat track.
- Position the driver seat forward enough so that upon removal the sensor can clear the magnetic bar and bracket.

Position the driver seat to allow removal of the seat position sensor.

2. Depower the system.

3. NOTE: Make note of the wire harness routing for installation purposes.

Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the screw and the seat position sensor.
- Separate the seat position sensor wire harness retainers and route the wire harness out.

4. Remove the screws and the magnetic bar with bracket.

Installation

1. Position the magnetic bar with bracket and install the screws.

2. Align the seat position sensor locator tabs to the openings in the seat track.

3. Install the seat position sensor and screw.
- Position the seat position sensor so the locator tabs go into the seat track openings and the sensor sits flat against the seat track.
- Install the screw.
- Route the seat position sensor wire harness, connect the electrical connector and install the retainers as noted in removal.

4. Repower the system.
5. Position the driver seat from its forward most position to its rearmost position and then back again. While positioning the seat, make sure that the seat position sensor, the magnet and bracket or the wire harness do not come in contact with any other part of the seat that may cause damage.
