Clutch System Bleeding

Clutch System Bleeding

CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.

NOTE: The brake/clutch master cylinder reservoir must be kept 3/4 full or higher during the bleeding procedure. Always use the specified brake fluid. Never reuse brake fluid.

NOTE: An assistant will be needed for this procedure.

1. Fill the brake/clutch master cylinder to the fill line.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the bleeder screw cover and attach a clear teflon hose to the bleeder screw.

4. Have an assistant depress and release the clutch pedal five times, then hold the clutch pedal down. With the clutch pedal depressed, rapidly open and close the bleeder screw to let air escape the clutch system. Air and hydraulic fluid will enter the teflon hose. Repeat this process until no air is apparent in the teflon hose when opening and closing the bleeder valve.

5. Tighten the bleeder screw and install the bleeder screw cover.
6. Slowly pump the clutch pedal several times to verify there is no fluid leakage.
Depress and release the clutch pedal five short cycles, and two full-travel cycles. Repeat both cycles ten times.
7. Carry out the following final checks:
^ Check that the clutch pedal is at the top of travel.
^ Check for correct operation of the clutch system.
^ Make sure the brake/clutch master cylinder is at the correct level.
