Removal

REMOVAL
Transmission
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.








2. NOTE: Do not remove the gearshift lever knob.

Remove the screw and lift the console finish panel to access the gearshift lever nut. Remove the gearshift lever nut, then remove the upper gearshift lever and console finish panel as an assembly.
^ Install the nut on the front of the lever, then tighten the nut to remove the eccentric stud out of the gearshift lever.
3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, raise and support the vehicle.





4. If the transmission is being disassembled, drain the transmission fluid.





5. Remove the front support.
6. Remove the starter.
7. Disconnect the rear driveshaft and position it aside.
8. Remove the transfer case, if equipped.





9. Using a suitable high lift jack, support the transmission.
^ Securely strap the jack to the transmission.





10. Remove the RH crossmember cover, then the four bolts.





11. Remove the four LH crossmember bolts.








12. Disconnect the heat shields from the crossmember.





13. Remove the nuts, then lower the crossmember from the vehicle.





14. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic line from the clutch slave cylinder.
^ Remove the clip and pull the line rearward.





15. Disconnect the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.





16. Disconnect the reverse lamp switch electrical connector.








17. Remove the wiring harness brackets from the transmission, then disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) electrical connectors.





18. Remove the two rear Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) bolts.








19. Remove the front TWC bolts and the TWC.





20. Remove the eight transmission-to-engine bolts.
21. Remove the transmission.
Move the transmission rearward until the input shaft is clear of the clutch, then lower from the vehicle.
