Cylinder Head RH





Special Tool(s)

Removal
1. Recover the A/C system.
2. Remove the roller followers.
3. Remove the fan shroud.
4. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.





5. Disconnect the generator electrical connections and disconnect the pushpin.





6. Remove the generator mounting bracket assembly.





7. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) electrical connector and disconnect the harness retainers from the front cover.





8. Position the water bypass hose clamp out of the way.





9. Remove the bolts and the thermostat housing.





10. Remove the nut. Disconnect the heater hoses and position out of the way.





11. Remove the nut from the A/C refrigerant lines on the inner fender.





12. Remove the nut from the A/C refrigerant lines at the bulkhead.





13. Remove the clips and disconnect the A/C refrigerant lines at the bulkhead. Position the A/C refrigerant lines out of the way.





14. Remove the engine wiring harness bolts.





15. Remove the engine noise shield.
16. Remove the RH exhaust manifold.





17. Remove the RH hydraulic chain tensioner.





18. NOTE: The right-hand camshaft sprocket is a left-hand threaded bolt.

Using the special tool, remove the RH camshaft bolt.





19. Remove the RH cassette bolt.





20. Remove the gear and install a rubber band around the cassette and chain.





21. Loosen the head bolts in the sequence shown. Remove and discard the head bolts.
- Remove the RH cylinder head.
- Remove the head gasket and discard.
- Clean and inspect the mating surfaces.

Installation





1. Position the cylinder head gasket on the block.





2. Install the cylinder head. Install the 12 mm (0.48 inch) bolts and tighten in the sequence shown.





3. Install the two 8 mm (0.32 inch) head bolts.





4. Tighten the 12 mm (0.48 inch) bolts in the sequence shown.





5. Tighten the eight 12 mm (0.48 inch) bolts in the sequence shown in two stages.
- Tighten the bolts 90 degrees
- Tighten the bolts an additional 90 degrees.





6. NOTE: The Camshaft gear must turn freely the camshaft. DO NOT tighten the bolt at this time.

Remove the rubber hand Install the camshaft sprocket and bolt.





7. Install the cassette bolt
8. Carry out the camshaft timing.
9. Install the RH exhaust manifold.





10. Install the engine noise shield.





11. Install the engine wiring harness bolts.





12. Position and connect the A/C refrigerant lines and install the clips.





13. Position the retaining clamp on the bulkhead and install the nut.





14. Position the retaining clamp on the inner fender and install the nut.





15. Position and connect the heater hoses. install the nut.





16. NOTE: Inspect the O-ring. Install a new O-ring if necessary.

Install the thermostat housing.





17. Position the water bypass hose clamp.





18. Connect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) electrical connector and attach the harness retainers to the front cover.





19. Install the generator mounting bracket assembly.





20. Connect the generator electrical connections and connect the pushpin.
21. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.
22. Install the fan shroud.
23. Install the roller followers.
24. Install the intake manifold.
25. Charge the A/C system.
