Inspection and Verification

INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION

1. Verify a power window or rear window defrost system concern by operating the system in question.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

3. Inspect the central and battery junction box for blown fuses.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the DLC located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is correctly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.

5. Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
- SCP +, SCP - or UBP circuits fault = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network).
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for GEM, refer to Body Control Systems (Multifunction Electronic Control Module).
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for ICM, refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
- SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the GEM.

6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the GEM/CTM or ICM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
