Material

Both Cylinder Heads


1. Remove the engine. Service and Repair







2. Remove the bolts and the flexplate.






3. Remove the spacer plate.






4. Install the engine on a suitable engine stand.

5. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.






Remove the engine lifting brackets.






6. Rotate the belt tensioner and remove the accessory drive belt.

7. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.






8. Remove the power steering hose support bracket.






9. Remove the bolt and position the radio capacitor aside.






10. Remove the bolts, the power steering pump and the reservoir.






11. Disconnect the A/C compressor and the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.






12. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers.






13. Remove the idle air control (IAC) valve and crankcase air inlet tubes.






14. Disconnect the generator electrical connections.






15. Remove the idler pulley.






16. Remove the generator bracket.






17. Remove the generator.






18. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.






19. Remove the upper radiator hose bracket and the radio capacitor.






20. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) vacuum regulator solenoid electrical and vacuum connections. Remove the bolts and the solenoid.






21. Remove the water pump pulley.

1. Remove the bolts.

2. Remove the water pump pulley.






22. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR system electrical connector and remove the EGR tube.


RH Cylinder Head






23. Remove the RH exhaust manifold heat shield.






24. Remove the RH exhaust manifold.

1. Remove the eight nuts.

2. Remove the RH exhaust manifold

3. Remove and discard the RH exhaust manifold gasket.

LH Cylinder Head






25. Remove the LH exhaust manifold heat shield.

26. Remove the LH exhaust manifold.






1. Remove the eight nuts.

2. Remove the LH exhaust manifold.

3. Remove and discard the LH exhaust manifold gasket.






27. Remove the bolt and the oil level indicator tube.

Both Cylinder Heads

28. Clean and inspect the exhaust manifold.






29. Remove the bolt and the brake booster vacuum hose.






30. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the throttle body adapter and the fuel pressure regulator.






31. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR valve.






32. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve and tube.






33. Disconnect the cylinder heat temperature (CHT) sensor electrical connector.






34. Disconnect the knock sensor (KS) electrical connector and the wiring harness pin-type retainer.






35. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor and the IAC electrical connectors.






36. Disconnect the RH fuel injector, coil-on-plug and ground electrical connectors. Remove the wiring harness retainers.






37. Disconnect the LH fuel injector and the coil-on-plug electrical connectors. Remove the wiring harness retainers.






38. Remove the bolt.






39. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers and remove the wiring harness.

40. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers and remove the fuel charging wiring harness.

41. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.






Remove the bolts and all eight ignition coils.






42. Remove the thermostat housing.






43. Remove the nine bolts and the intake manifold.






44. Remove the intake manifold gaskets.
