Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Principles of Operation (How Does it Work?)

Safety Belt Warning Chime
The safety belt warning chime is controlled by the SEC/timer module. When the driver safety belt is not fastened, the safety belt warning switch is closed, completing a ground to the safety belt warning input of the SEC/timer module. When the ignition is rotated to the RUN position, the SEC/timer module will sound the safety belt warning chime for 6 seconds, or until the safety belt is fastened.

Key-In Ignition Warning Chime
The key-in ignition warning chime is controlled by the gauges and warning devices (non integral to the cluster) SEC/timer module. When the ignition key is in the ignition switch, and the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACCY position, the key-in ignition warning switch is closed, completing a ground to the key is in the ignition warning input of the SEC/timer module. When the driver door is opened, the door ajar warning switch is closed, completing a ground to the door ajar warning input of the SEC/timer module, the SEC/timer module will then sound the key-in ignition warning chime until either the driver door is closed, or the ignition key is removed from the ignition switch.

Headlamp-On Reminder Chime
The headlamp-on warning chime is controlled by the SEC/timer module. When the headlamp switch is in the headlamp, or park lamp position, the SEC/timer module headlamp-on warning chime input receives a 12 volt signal from the headlamp switch. If the driver door is opened, the the door ajar warning switch is closed, completing a ground to the door ajar warning input of the SEC/timer module. Provided that the ignition key is not in the ignition, the headlamp-on warning chime will sound until the headlamps are turned OFF, or the driver door is closed.
