Charging System: Description and Operation

The charging system is a 12-volt negative ground system consisting of:
^ a generator with an integral voltage regulator.
^ a battery.
^ a charging system indicator.
^ electrical wiring and battery cables.

The nominal rating of the generator is 12 volts, 125 amps.

Battery
Vehicles are equipped with a maintenance-free 12-volt, 60 amp-hour battery rated at 450 cold cranking amps. Canadian vehicles and vehicles equipped with the trailer tow package or auxiliary air conditioning are equipped with a maintenance-free 12-volt, 75 amp-hour battery rated at 525 cold cranking amps.

Charging System Indicator
The charging system indicator illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and goes out as the engine is started and the charging system begins to operate. The indicator is located in the instrument cluster.
