PINPOINT TEST P: THE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

Test P1-P2:

Test P2-P4:

Normal Operation
The charging system is hardwired to the PCM through circuit 585 (VT) and circuit 586 (RD/PK). The PCM monitors the battery state of charge and provides generator voltage regulator controls, which effectively increase or decrease the generator output to maintain battery charge and to meet electrical demands on the system. The charging system status is then sent from the PCM to the instrument cluster over the SCP communication network, circuits 914 (TN/OG) and 915 (PK/LB). When the generator output is low, the PCM sends a command to the instrument cluster to illuminate the charging system warning indicator.

Possible Causes
- generator
- PCM
- instrument cluster
